A place to feel good and relax

Nestling in the picturesque landscape of the 17,000-hectare Sintra-Cascais Natural Park is the little mountain hamlet of Malveira de Serra. This is where you’ll stay, at the vibrant heart of Sunny Soul. The house has five friendly, light, attractively furnished rooms and thus offers space for up to ten people. In the large communal living-room you’ll find a cosy seating area with a TV and a separate reading corner.

The outside area with its green garden is especially popular with our guests: here, you can cool off in the saltwater pool or unwind in the hammocks and loungers – it’s pure relaxation! Free WiFi is available throughout the building.

In addition to cosy cafés and traditional Portuguese restaurants, you’ll also find a supermarket, a pharmacy, a bank and a whole lot more here in Malveira. Whereas the larger towns in Portugal have meanwhile got very touristy, Malveira de Serra has kept much of its original Portuguese charm. We love the relaxed atmosphere, the unrushed lifestyle and the friendly people who live here. This is a place where you can only feel good.

The landscape around Malveira de Serra is a real paradise for nature-lovers and outdoor athletes: here you’ll find wild and romantic coasts, picturesque bays, golden beaches, steep rock faces and verdant forests. This stunning setting is where our hiking, mountain bike and climbing tours take place. The accommodation is ideally located for water sports enthusiasts too: the west coast offers ideal wave formations – it’s only four kilometres to famous Guincho Beach, which has long been known amongst surfers as the top hotspot. The south coast, in turn, offers great spots for bathing and stand-up paddling. Culture vultures won’t be disappointed either: there are plenty of great day-trip destinations, fascinating sights and cultural highlights within a radius of only 40 kilometres around the Retreat:

Lisbon

Cascais

"As you'll see, no matter what you feel like doing – whether it’s outdoor action, enjoying the beach, sightseeing or just chilling in the hammock – here at Sunny Soul, everyone finds just what they're looking for!"

Lisbon

It’s not only one of Europe’s oldest cities, but also one of her most fascinating: Lisbon, Portugal’s metropolis, is located only 34 km from the Retreat. In this exciting city of contrasts, tradition and history meet openness to the modern world and cosmopolitan flair. Many winding alleyways with close rows of houses, magnificent palaces and dreaming squares, traditional cafés and thousands of colourful tiles on every corner – Lisbon’s irresistible charm of times gone by will inspire you. At the same time, the many shopping streets with fancy shops, chic restaurants, hip clubs and trendy bars are filled with vibrant life. One simply has to see this city.

Sintra

Another absolute highlight is Sintra. Only 20 kilometres away, this enchanting little town with its numerous historical buildings reveals the splendour of past times – because Sintra was once the summer residence of the Portuguese kings. Here, you can marvel at extravagant palaces such as the Palácio da Penna, opulent villas like the Quinta da Regaleira, magical gardens with exquisite exotic plants and the ruins of an antique castle, the Castelo do Mouros. Absolutely impressive – an opinion shared by UNESCO, which declared the cultural landscape of Sintra a World Heritage Site in 1995.

Cascais

The small fishing town of Cascais is situated only 9 kilometres from the Retreat and is perfect for a day trip. In the heart of the town is a beautiful and historical old town with classic 19th century architecture, which has kept its traditional Portuguese character and welcomes visitors to its many restaurants, pretty little shops and elegant boutiques. The special thing about Cascais is that it lies directly by the sea and you’ll find fabulous beaches and a picturesque yacht harbour here. In summer, you can hire bikes here, ride along the well-tended cycle tracks along the coasts and enjoy the magnificent view.
